Connection is the antidote to trauma and healing happens in connection. Through education, individual & collective healing, and building community I believe we can create a trauma informed world.
Relational mental health care and education from a trauma conscious human.
Ilyse Kennedy, LPC-S, LMFT-S, SEP is a therapist, supervisor, and practice owner of Moving Parts Psychotherapy, serving Austin, TX and the greater Texas area. She is also an author, podcast host, educator, and public speaker.
As a trauma survivor who found her own healing power in educating herself , she became passionate about educating the general public about trauma and healing. Quality trauma informed mental health care is not accessible to all, but education can be. When an individual understands how trauma has effected them, it allows for understanding, self compassion, and can be the first step towards healing. When we understand the impact trauma has had on others, it allows us to have compassion and understanding for the community at large. The ripple effects can reduce trauma on a global scale, creating a more trauma informed world.
In her work with clients, she prides herself on being a relational therapist who offers depth work. Having trained extensively in Interpersonal Neurobiology with mentors such as Marshall Lyles and Bonnie Badenoch, she works with many clients seeking long term trauma recovery work. Clients often describe having felt “stuck” and sometimes, “re-traumatized” with other therapists. Utilizing her training in Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, EMDR, and sandtray therapy, she offers long term recovery work. Though she began sharing accessible information on mental health through Instagram and gained a large following in the midst of COVID, in recent years she has expanded to long form work. Her book, “The Tender Parts: Healing Trauma Through Internal Family Systems Therapy” was published by PESI in 2022. Like the rest of her work, the book offers an accessible approach to Internal Family Systems therapy that clinicians and the average reader can gain information and guidance from. Her other long form work has included speaking engagements for organizations such as Meta (previously Facebook), Future Front Texas, Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and Postpartum Support International.
She took her work further beyond Instagram in 2025, with her podcast “The Hilling Journey.” Originally joined by her therapist bestie, Lindsay Camp, the podcast features honest discussions around the joys and perils of healing. Guests have included Lisa Keefauver, Dean Spade, and will feature Tiffany Reese (of Something Was Wrong) and Dr. Han Ren for season 2.
When she’s not nerding out about trauma and neuroscience, she is probably searching for creatures with her three children, imbibing in the reality television arts, seeing live music, exploring new places, and leaning in to deep friendships and community. As much as she loves to learn and teach, she enjoys living what she practices more.
